Add Your Name To The Petition Asking Climate Envoy John Kerry To Include Militarism In Climate Talks

On April 14th senior advisors to John Kerry, US special climate envoy, met with a group from Veterans For Peace that included VFP Chapter 74 member Jim Rine (https://www.veteransforpeace.org/take-action/climatecrisis ). In the meeting, the group discussed the open letter (www.veteransforpeace.org/files/8716/1841/8353/Final-VFPLettertoEnvoyKerry.pdf) to Kerry, urging him to include US militarism in future climate negotiations. Some cosigning organizations are 350.org, CODEPINK, American Friends Service Committee.  Some notable cosigning individuals are Noam Chomsky, Daniel Ellsberg, Dahr Jamail, Rev. Lennox Yearwood, Wenona LaDuke.

Some facts on climate militarism:

·         US military has the largest carbon footprint of any organization in the world.

·         US pressured that the 1997 Kyoto Protocol not include military emissions (for any country) and then pulled out.

·         Emissions from 800 US foreign bases are counted as being from the “host” countries and not the USA.

·         U.S. military emissions equal those of Sweden, Denmark, or Portugal.

Vietnam War - Full Disclosure

The Full Disclosure campaign is a Veterans For Peace effort to speak truth to power and keep alive the antiwar perspective on the American war in Vietnam -- which is now approaching a series of 50th anniversary events. It represents a clear alternative to the Pentagon's current efforts to sanitize and mythologize the Vietnam war and to thereby legitimize further unnecessary and destructive wars. The Full Disclosure web site - www.vietnamfulldisclosure.org - has sections on the Vietnam War Chronology, Educational Resources, Advocacy and more.
