Peace Scholarship
Utah Phillips/J. David Singer
Peace Scholarship
Chapter 93 of Veterans For Peace proudly offers the Utah Phillips/J. David Singer Peace Scholarship to support Michigan residents or students enrolled in Michigan institutions of higher education who are pursuing studies in Peace Studies or related programs that focus on global conflict resolution, peace, and justice.
Purpose and Mission
From the Statement of Purpose for Veterans For Peace:
"We, having dutifully served our nation, do hereby affirm our greater responsibility to serve the cause of world peace and justice. Americans will be secure at home only when there is peace and justice abroad.
To this end, we will work with others to:
-
Increase public awareness of the costs of war,
-
Restrain our government from intervening in the internal affairs of other nations,
-
End the arms race and eliminate nuclear weapons,
-
Abolish war as an instrument of international policy."
To achieve these goals, Veterans For Peace members pledge to use non-violent means and maintain a democratic organization.
Scholarship Overview
Since 2006, Chapter 93 has awarded over $30,000 in Peace Scholarships. Our major fundraiser is an annual John Lennon concert, supported by local musicians and emceed by Chris Buhalis. Learn more about the John Lennon concert.
